Dearest Brother by JessHavok Dearest Brother by JessHavok
My digital painting of Loki, it's not perfect but I regret nothing. This one and "Tom Hiddleston" are what I used for the :iconhiddlesbirthday: project to give as a B-Day present this year!

Oh boy!! Your gallery is awesome! It was difficult to pick something, your skill here far surpasses mine (plus I do not paint... so...), but you know what they say about critics, right? My initial choice was Sherlock painting, as its awesome... but there were too many comments there as is, so I chose this one instead. You have quite a painting skill and you get the faces bob on...

In terms of improvement, I think this is to consider:

Hair, its black, fair enough, but there should be at least a light reflection on the side where all the light hits the face...

Ears look a little high for me... I might be wrong, have another look.

The eyes are done well, but you kind of neglected the inside of the lower lid.

Mouth is a bit off on one side... if it is meant to be that way and he is biting on the lip or tightening the mouth then there should be more muscle definition around the mouth to highlight that...

The neck seems very out of focus and jawline looks almost cut out, so overall the impression is a bit of a mask...

Awesome job otherwise though...

Aw, thank you, you're very kind. Also yes I'd agree on everything you said here! This was actually I believe my first serious attempt at a painting (there was ONE before it but I was really only messing around with my brushes then). But I think I've tackled a lot of the flaws this one has with the newer ones I've done. Looking at it now its really crappy, but I end up thinking that every 3 months about my work lol. But this is though... Because its before I did skin textures, and only used two tones in eyes along with everything else mentioned. But I can't really hate my old work truly, because I think I learn something new with each new work. -I knew a professor who used to try to get me to rework old works, but I can't stand doing that, you know? Gotta start fresh! Thanks for your review!!! <3

That's amazing for a first attempt! I know exactly what you mean about looking back... I am like that also, I look back at stuff I did a while back and hang my head in shame for a minute, until I realise: hey, this means I am getting better!

Completely agree on going back point, I try to re-work some of the stuff few times, but once I am done with it, I can't bear to look at that reference again, let alone come back and re-draw it again after a while: kills the fun! :D

No worries, if you want me to have a look at something newer and review, let me know!
